Animal Kingdom Lodge

I was planning on blogging during our trip, but here we are on day 3 of Disney, day 6 of our trip, and I realize that it just isn’t going to happen everyday like I had hoped! But I will have lots of posts when we get home.

Right now, the baby and I are chilling in our huge, 2 bedroom, Savannah View villa at Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village. My husband and 3 oldest kids went to Disney Quest for a few hours. We spent the morning at Typhoon Lagoon, went mini-golfing at Wintersummerland, and pool hopped to Jambo House (Animal Kingdom Lodge). We realized that we like the pool here at Kidani Village much better – slide is longer and more stuff for little ones to play on and with, including small waterslide ๐Ÿ™‚

I should fold some laundry and start the dishes…. But I think I’ll just sit here with my mellow baby boy and enjoy the view from our balcony and watch the animals go by… ๐Ÿ™‚

Hidden Mickey’s

Hidden Mickey's

Have any of you done theย Hidden Mickey’s?? My kids think it is a lot of fun when we find Hidden Mickey’s. ย I’ve never bought the book before or done anything official, but I just decided for this trip to pick up the book. And thanks to Amazon Prime, It arrived on time! I thought it would be fun to do while waiting in line, or just walking around. We will be there quite awhile, so I thought it would be a fun addition to our trip! My kids were pretty excited when the book arrived yesterday in the mail!

We’ll let you know how the Hidden Mickey finding goes. Just one more thing to make the trip a little more magical! ๐Ÿ™‚

Be our Guest lunch fastpass+

I had heard of the mythical Be our Guest lunch fastpass. I want to eat there on our trip, but I don’t want to stand in the 30-40 minute lines just to get food. I was bummed when the option for a Fastpass+ didn’t show up when I was booking our Fastpasses for our trip. ย Then I get an email that said this:

Be our Guest lunch fastpass

Oh YEAH! Looks like you have to be staying at a Disneyworld hotel to get the Be our Guest lunch fastpassย and they send you an email with the steps to get it. Plus, it is in addition to your other 3 fastpass+, so you don’t have to use up your valuable fastpass+ spots!! SWEET!

I wanted to book it for the second week we were there, because my sister-in-law will be with us. However, it looks like the system will only allow you to book it for the first 7 days of your vacation. BUMMER! Now I have read that you can change it to later in your trip, or get a second fastpass+ for later in your trip, once you are already there and talk to someone, or use your first and then book the second. I am not sure, if it can be done – we might try once we are there – but I didn’t want to give up the opportunity to dine there with a fastpass+ and miss the lines, so I went ahead and booked it for us. Hopefully, we can get a second one for the second part of our stay or change it to the second week, but if not, at least we will have gotten in once without a line!!

When I first logged on, it would only let me book the first few days of our trip. I then did some research, and found out you can only book 28 days in advance. So I waited a few days, and it was available for the day we wanted to go, exactly 28 days in advance.

You can pre-order your meal, or simply just get aย fastpass+ to the ordering stage. I chose to pre-order our meal and go straight to our table, as the less time in lines, or waiting for anything with my kids is preferable. I already know what we will want on the menu, so it was easy to pre-order it. If we change our minds, it is easy to change your order via the website!

So you go to the Be our Guest lunch fastpassย website from the link in the email (you can google it was well, but you need a Disneyworld reservation # to logon) and you see a page like this (I did it on my phone to get easy screen shots, it looks pretty much the same on the computer)

20140723-072524-26724356.jpg

Here is the main menu for the Be our Guest lunch fastpass, where you can change your fastpass time, you meal selection, etc.

20140723-072524-26724057.jpg

When you select and/or replace your Be our Guest lunch fastpassย time you are taken to a calendar, with only the first 7 days of your trip highlighted to book:

20140723-072524-26724209.jpg

Click on the date you want your Be our Guest lunch fastpass. If it is more than 28 days in advance, it will tell you there are no times available:

20140723-101740-37060641.jpg

If you don’t see the time that you want, all you need to do is click “back” ย and then “next” again, and it will give you 2 new times, if other times are available. For some reason, it only gives you 2 time options at a time, even if there are more times available.

You can Choose Fastpass+ or Direct to table

If you choose Direct to table, like me, then you will need to select your meals, and they let you customize those options as needed.

20140723-072136-26496300.jpg

As you can see, I had to get 2 of the “grey stuff – it’s delicious” for my family to try and share.

20140723-072136-26496143.jpg

20140723-072136-26496644.jpg

YIKES! Yes, this is an EXPENSIVE lunch. That is the price for 2 entrees (my husband and I are sharing a sandwich, and each getting a bowl of soup, but it is the same cost as 2 entrees – no drinks – we just drink water), 3 kids meals, that come with a drink (my 2 youngestย share, as they don’t eat much), and 2 deserts to share. Now, I did order the souvenir castle cup. If I were to eat here a second time, I would not order that. So my total would be under $60, but still! I guess it will be a treat ๐Ÿ™‚ We usually don’t spend that much when we eat dinner out as a family. Good thing we have a full kitchen in our villa to save money on other meals!

Then you confirm the Be our Guest lunch fastpassย reservation and you get this:

20140723-101740-37060499.jpg

They don’t give you a reservation # and it doesn’t show up in the My Disney Experience, so it makes me a little nervous… but it does show up on the website, so I will assume that it is all good and ready to go!

YAY!! I am excited to try out Be our Guest lunch fastpassย and see the cool castle and decor inside. I’ll try and take lots of pictures to share and give an entire review of the process, food, and decor when we return!

MagicBands

MagicBandsMagicBands

Look at what arrived in the mail!!! I actually meant to post this a few days ago, but they arrived on my son’s 4th Birthday, so we were just a bit busy that day ๐Ÿ˜‰

We are getting a total of 3 sets of MagicBands, one for each Disneyworld Hotel that we are staying at during our trip. I am planning to decorate at least one set, because we are getting so many, so why not? We’ll see if I get the time to do it… If I do, I’ll post the pictures here.

You may be asking, “What are Magicbands?”

Magicbands are sent to those staying in Walt Disney World hotels before their stay. You can customize your bands before your stay, to add you name and which color you desire for your magicband. They are then mailed to your home. If you don’t customize them, then you will be given the basic gray magicband when you check into your hotel. ย Ours were mailed to us exactly one month before our check-in date. They sent several emails warning me to customize the bands, telling me they were shipping soon. I got the shipment notice email and then theyย showed up the next day. I am thinking the email didn’t get sent right as they mailed them, since they got here so quickly after the shipment email.

The Disneyworld website states that you can purchase a magicband for $12.95 plus tax at the parks, I am guessing for those not staying at a Disney hotel, but still want a magicband.

Since we have 6 members of our family, we got each color available ๐Ÿ™‚ (except the gray) My sister-in-law is joining us on our second stay, so we got her magicband with our second set of bands, that we received a day after the first set. We are still waiting on the third set, but my guess is they will be here by the weekend. ย Her magicband is the same color as my daughter’s, but they put their names on the inside of the magicbands, so no mixing up the bands!

You can use your Magicbands for just about everything at Disneyworld, and they replace your Key to the World Cards.

  • Use the Magicbands as your hotel room key
  • Use your Magicbands to make purchases – when you customize your bands, they will ask you to set a pin number, which you will need to make purchases. I like this for security purposes. You will only be able to make charges if you are staying at a Disneyworld hotel.
  • Your Theme Park tickets are linked to your Magicband, so you only need your band to get into the park!
  • You can pick your fastpass+ options using My Disney Experience. You can pick and load 3 fastpass+ options, 60 days in advance of your trip. I have picked our fast pass+ options for our trip already and they are linked to the Magicband. Then you simply tap your magicband at the fastpass+ entrance and get into the ride without the line. No more running to get your fastpass and keeping track of the paper passes, and never knowing what time you will get for your fastpass for. Simply load your fastpass+ options from your computer or smartphone app, and set what times you want to use that fastpass!
  • They are waterproof – so you can wear them to the waterparks or to the swimming pool!
  • You can re-use it on future trips to Disneyworld. You simply manage your different magicbands in your My Disney Experience

I am excited to try the Magicbands out! I don’t like the idea of being limited to 3 fastpass+, but you can apparently add more once you have used your first 3 up! I like not having to send someone to get our fastpasses, then not knowing exactly what return time you’ll get. I am a planner, so I love the idea of pre-planning my fastpasses and not having to worry about getting them when I get to the park! Plus it is my room key, and I don’t have to take my money or credit cards to the park to pay for anything, or even take theme park admissions. Just need my Magicband and I am set!

Hopefully they will actually work as seamlessly as they lead you to believe! I guess I’ll let you know when I get home ๐Ÿ™‚

The Bands can be made smaller for little people. We did this for my youngest two. Here is what they look like smaller:

20140718-213512-77712455.jpg

Here they are side by side – child vs adult size:

20140718-213513-77713174.jpg

Here is the side of the adult. You can see that you simply pull the colored part of the band, out of the black outer edge. It is fairly simply to do, and just requires to firmly pulling them apart:

20140718-213513-77713918.jpg

Here you can see the name on the inside of the Magicband. This way you know whose it whose, if you have the same color. There is also an identifying number, so if you have multiple magicbands, then you will be able to tell the difference. (I have blacked out that info in the picture):

Disneyland 60th Birthday

Today, during Disneyland’s 59th Birthday Celebration, it was announced plans for the Disneyland 60th Birthday!

60

Not too much was said about what they are planing in the park as part of the Disneyland 60th Birthday, other than the celebration starts in the Spring of 2015, but they are asking people to send in photos, and have a chance to win a trip to Disneyland for the celebration.

I was not really planning a trip to Disneyland next year, but now I am re-thinking my plans ๐Ÿ™‚ We were at the 50th celebration, we have the golden mickey hats! So we HAVE to be there for the 60th, right?!?! HA! We will see if it happens, but seriously considering a trip for the celebration now! Now to get my husband, and finances on board to make this a reality.

When they had the 50th celebration, we submitted photos for the big murals that were made out of all the pictures that people submitted. We had several pictures that were in a few different murals, and we took pictures of them on that trip to Disneyland. I might have to dig through my computer and find those pictures and post them!

What do you think? Does the Disneyland 60th Birthdayย celebration entice you to head to Disneyland next year?

Here is what they said about the celebration:

โ€œToday, in addition to celebrating the 59th birthday of theย Disneyland Resort, we gave guests and fans a sneak peek at our upcoming Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, which begins spring 2015. Itโ€™s an incredible time at the Disneyland Resort as we prepare for next yearโ€™s Diamond Celebration,โ€ said Michael Colglazier, president, Disneyland Resort. โ€œWeโ€™re excited to honor our rich history, to celebrate the incredible magic that fills our resort today, and to create unforgettable memories with our guests for many years to come.โ€

As part of this morningโ€™s festivities, weโ€™re inviting the generations of families and friends who have visited to share their favorite memories through the photos they have taken at the resort. Weโ€™ll share some of the photos here on theย Disney Parks Blog, and one lucky guest will have a chance to win a trip to the start of the 60th anniversary celebration in spring 2015. Starting today, fans in the United States and District of Columbia are invited to submit photos that represent their memories from the Disneyland Decades โ€“ 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000 to the present. Using hashtag #Disneyland60Contest, guests may share the photos via Twitter or Instagram. Let us know the decade in which the photo was taken in the description or tweet. For details and rules,ย click here.

We look forward to celebrating 60 years of The Happiest Place on Earth with you!

Here is more about the contest:

Magical Express

Look at what came in the mail today!!!

Magical Express

I love getting mail to remind me of our upcoming trip! Just means it is getting closer!!

I LOVE Magical Express. It is probably one of the biggest reasons I like to stay onsite! It is EXPENSIVE to rent a van, when you have 4 kids, you have no other choice! Just paying to get us to and from the airport in some sort of shuttle would cost us over $100 each way!

When you stay at Disney, they pick you up from the airport for FREE! No car rental or paid shuttle service needed! You enter the Magic of Disney right from the airport! The buses are large and nice. They do the driving, and the toll paying for you! You sit back and get to enjoy a little video while they drive you to your hotel! SWEET! I dislike driving, as does my husband, especially in places we are not familiar with!

If you have checked bags, you can place these yellow stickers on them:

20140712-211645-76605802.jpg

And then the bags show up in your room later, like magic! No need to wait at the luggage carousel to pick up your bags! Go directly to the bus and get on – they get your bags for you, and deliver them to your room at no charge!

One year, the bags were just in our room when we got back for the day. Another year, we were resting in our room after the flight, and we saw the magical people that bring the bags. They apologized for disrupting us, as you don’t usually see the people that deliver the bags – they are supposed to magically show up in your room… ๐Ÿ™‚

It is a great system, and I know for us it is a BIG reason we stay on site. Save us so much money on renting a car or paying for a shuttle/taxi when we are a large family!

The bummer about getting these? We are not going to use them this trip! ๐Ÿ™

I am actually kind of bummed not to start our trip on the magical express! We always start our trips on the Magical Express!! ๐Ÿ™

But since we are going to Legoland the day before we check in at Disney and are staying at a hotel at the airport, we are renting a car for the day, to get to Legoland (cheaper than the shuttles). It is the same price to return the car to the airport, as it is to return it to the Disney Car Care Center, so we decided we would just drop our luggage off at the hotel, and then just return the car at Disney, saving us a step, and since it was the same price, it reduced alot of hassle and will save us quite a bit of time!!

But I am still sad we won’t start our trip on the Magical Express this time… My sister in law comes in a few days after us, and she is taking the Magical Express, and since it is her first time to Disneyworld, she will get the entire experience!

We are taking the Magical Express back to the airport, but that is not nearly as fun ๐Ÿ™ I mean that means you are leaving Disney… Rather a sad ride instead of fun.. ย So yes, you can just take the Magical Express one-way! Either to or from the airport, or round-trip!

I REALLY REALLY wish Disneyland had something like the Magical Express. I might be tempted to stay in one of their hotels, if they had a perk like this!

Now we are just waiting for our Magic bands to show up! I think they ship out this week, so we should be seeing them soon!!

Penny Passports

Penny Passports

We’ve never done the pressed pennies at Disney, but I decided that it would be a fun souvenir this trip. Not only is it a cheap little trinket, but my kids ALWAYS want to play with the machines and think they are the coolest. So I decided that we could do them this trip, and each of my kids can have a fun and inexpensiveย souvenir to remember this trip by.

I know they sell the penny passports at Disney, but they are rather expensive, especially times 4 kids! So I picked up 4 Penny Passports from Amazonย (Amazon prices change often, ebay is another great place to check for these!) for like $3 each shipped.

20140708-230713-83233911.jpg

Then I bought some Sticker printer paper from Amazon. I went ahead and got the 100 sheets, because I know that I will use it often for various crafts and projects. Otherwise, it is like $.70-1.00 per sheet of sticker paper, so this was MUCH MUCH cheaper per sheet!

Then I had the kids pick a Disney Clip art that they wanted on their passports. Just do a google search for Disney clip art. I then put each picture into a table in word. I got 4 per page, which was almost the perfect size for the passports. We added their names and printed them out. It only took one sheet of sticker paper for all 4 passports.

They turned out pretty cute and my kids are excited about them. So for about $12.18 I made 4 personalized passports for my kids. I am pretty sure I could only buy 1 at Disneyworld for that price!

Penny Passports

Then I decided to print out covers for their M&M containers. Mini-M&M containers work perfectly for quarters and pennies. Simply pre-load the tubes with alternating two quarters and a penny. We plan to give each kid $10 in quarters to spend on the trip.

20140709-094820-35300121.jpg

To make these, I simply flipped the word document to landscape and moved the name to the side of the picture. They match the kids Penny passports, so we can easily know whose container is whose.

Can you tell we are getting excited for our trip? I am getting together the toy bag full of things for my kids to play with on our long plane trip all the way from Oregon to Florida today as well! YAY!!

Countdown Chain

I was having a difficult day and then I got this email:

20140702-104132-38492143.jpg

Nothing like Disney getting you psyched for vacation!

My kids made their countdown chain. I loved these when I was a kid. They included the 4th of July, My son’s 4th Birthday, My husband’s Birthday, Cub Scout Camp, etc. on the chain, all leading up to the day we leave for our trip!

Countdown Chain

Countdown Chain to Disneyworld

Then we got our FREE decal in the mail!! ย It was a great Disney day!!

20140702-104206-38526861.jpg

So All of these things made my not so fantastic day, so much better ๐Ÿ™‚

What makes you smile when you are having a down day? Apparently just a few reminders of Disney is all I need ๐Ÿ™‚

Autograph Binder

20140626-111630-40590559.jpg

I made our Autograph Binder for our upcoming trip! I’ve been doing the autograph binder for our kids for years, way before Pinterest gave us all these great idea (seriously, I am not sure how we did anything creative before Pinterest!)

My thinking behind the autograph binder was, it was inexpensive, something easy to put together, and I had everything around the house for it already. I LOVE back to school sales on school supplies, and I stock up for the entire year. I always have a few binders lying around. You can pick them up for about $1, with the little sleeves on the front, that you can slip a piece of paper in.

I then just go on the computer, find some Disney Clip Art, and add the year, Disneyland or Disneyworld, and the kid’s name. I used to do individual ones for each kid, but now that we have 4 kids, I do NOT want to carry around 4 binders. Not to mention, it would take FOREVER for the characters to sign 4 different autograph books! So we now do one binder, then when we get home, if they want their own (which my younger kids are boys, and don’t care much), we scan the papers in and just print out their own copies.

Inside, we simply punch holes in plain white copy paper, that again we get for free (or nearly free) at back to school time. ย We then take some Sharpies with us for the characters to sign with.

At the parks, the characters LOVE the big paper and room to write (or at least the ones that talked – and told us so). Many would use all the space, write special things to the kids, or just write something fun.

Then when we get home from the parks, I take the autographs out of the binder, put them in the printer, and on the back side of the autograph, I print a picture of the kids with the character that they got the autograph from! It is such a fun and unique souvenir! Just be sure to put the paper into your printer correctly, so that it prints on the opposite side of the autograph. You can see my pictures below.

It is so inexpensive to do this autograph binder. It is unique and fun! You can personalize it however you wish, and something that the kids will look through and remember for YEARS to come! Plus, adding the picture to the back of the autographs is just fun! My kids often look through their binders and at the pictures ๐Ÿ™‚

I grabbed pictures from one of my daughters binders, because I could not find my sons’ and if you could see their room, you would understand why I did not want to look for it in there ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย I didn’t take a picture of the front of this particular one that she has, but it has a picture of the Disney Princesses on the front, and below that it says: “Sabrina’s 2009 Disneyland Autograph Binder” (she has like 4 different binders from 2009-2012)

DVC Member Services

I am back to the land of the living. I ran Epic Relay this weekend, and then I was down and out with a terrible sickness I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy! Today I am feeling better, so I thought I would FINALLY get around to calling DVC member services again, to add Magical Express to our reservations, now that we had our flight information.

I had called them before, and knew it would be a looooonnnnnggggg wait. Seriously, if I owned DVC (Disney Vacation Club), I would be very annoyed with how long it takes to talk to someone! I have tried calling several times, and keep getting waits of anywhere from 24-45 minutes. SERIOUSLY?!?! I always just decide to call back. I had to call a few months ago, to get the entire family added to our reservation, but I didn’t have our flight information then. *sigh* So a call back closer to our arrival date would be needed.

When I called this morning, I got a wait time of only 13 minutes! YAY! I was thrilled. Must have been a good time to call! I think it took more like 14 minutes, but I did get a hold of someone. Then they tried to look up our reservation. Mind you, I have our reservation #. I am staring at them in My Disney Experience on my computer as I am speaking to her. I ask her repeatedly if she would like that number. No… she’ll find it…. 10 minutes later, so finds the 1st one. ย She enters the flight information.

Then we have to go through it all again to find the second reservation (we have 2 weeks at 2 different DVC resorts). Only this one, I swear took longer.

While we are waiting, she asks me if I know about My Disney Experience. And about getting my FastPass +… Ummm…. Yeah, I did that like a week ago (as soon as it was available!!), we are all set with fastpasses for our entire 2 week trip.

Oh…well, What about dining? Do you need help with reservations? Yeah, I did that like 4 months ago, when our dining options first opened up for us.

Oh, and before you ask, Yes, I have already done our Online Check-in, added our Room Request information, and our credit card information for charging to our magic bands.

Oh… ok… Do you need reservations for anything else? No. I made the reservations for my kids Pirate Adventure 4 months ago as well. I even bought our Memory Maker picture package awhile ago. This is not our first time. We know what we are doing ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess I could have mentioned my Disney blogging, but decided not to….

I think I stumped her on how to pass the ever long time that it was taking to look up our reservation – for which I had the reservation # for (and asked repeatedly if she would like). ย The reservation FINALLY came up, and she changed our outgoing Magical Express information (which had changed) and added my Sister in Law’s information. When adding her flight info, something got messed up, and she had to delete it and enter it again. But it is all supposedly in there!

We should be getting our luggage tags in a few days (45 days out is not far away now!!!)

It was about 42 minutes total for the call. Man, if I could have just entered all that online, I would have saved myself 40 minutes of my life. Seriously, the ever long waits and how long it takes to get anything done with their system, is NOT selling me on the DVC! Now once I see the beautiful Villas, my mind might be changed ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just have to get over the incredibly long waits on their phone system for something that would take 2 minutes, if they would just let me do it online…. *sigh*

I get off the phone with her – Thanking her for her help (she was very nice). I do always love how they tell you to have a Magical Day ๐Ÿ™‚ I realized when I hung up, that I forgot to have them take my sister that is no longer coming, off the reservation. DOH! Oh well, It doesn’t matter much. There is no way I am calling and doing that again, so it will be a nice surprise for them when we get there!

49 days to go!!! YAY!!!
